PROSPECTING AND TREASURE HUNTING FUNCTIONS

AMARILLO PROSPECTORS & TREASURE HUNTERS ASSOCIATION has many functions and outings planned for our members and Drywasher in Actionfamilies through out the year. We have monthly meetings to share information and fellowship. AP&THA sponsors Club Hunts at different places with potential of providing keeper finds. We have Club Prospecting trips that offer some great times and produce that yellow stuff as well. As part of our club's educational function AP&THA has membership training outings, usually accompanied by a meal. These outings deal with a specific goal on mastering a skill. One such outing was on How to Locate and Retrieve a Target. Several seasoned metal detectorist took groups of "students" out into a field at Thompson Park where they would locate the target, pinpoint it and then properly retrieve target with the least disturbance of the turf as possible. These type outings are frequently followed by a hamburger and hot dog cookout.

The club also has annual events where we try to involve as many of our members as possible. Our Chili Cook-off was a huge success and we had some great chili to warm us up on that chilly day (Pun intended!).

Another example of some of our functions was the community building of dry-washers that were built from Club purchased plans. The small but useful dry-Dry washer building partywashers will come in handy on our club prospecting outings. The dry-washers will also be available for use by members if they want to utilize them on a personal trip. Then as a way to fund propecting equipment needs our club Held a raffle "Celebrating the Lincoln cents 100th birthday". It was a huge success and was almost entirely handled by Rodney L. With the proceeds from the raffle the club purchased a collection of prospecting items. A metal dry-washer, assorted pans and other items needed to have a successful prospecting trip.  All the "tools" can be checked out by our members for up to two weeks up to 60 days in advance.

As a Community Outreach task the club Adopted a Park in 2009 to become our first civic function. It was the first adoption of a park in Amarillo. We as a club will provide assistance in keeping the Stephen F. Austin Park clean, special planting projects and provide a frequent presence in the area. Read about it on our link above. We want as many members to be a part of this great program; so get your rakes, your green thumbs gloved and help out our City's fantastic Parks and Recreation Department. Additionally we have a Lost Item Recovery Group that help people find lost items, if said items can be found with a metal detector. The free service is located on the  LOST ITEM RECOVERY SERVICE link at the top of each page or click on the previous link.
